We picked up a 24' U-Haul truck yesterday afternoon and started shifting the boxes we had already packed into it. We needed to see just how much stuff there was still to pack. We started in this morning on our bedroom. Took apart the bed frame, put the mattress in plastic and moved everything out into the truck. Then we moved on to the spare bedroom and gave it the same treatment. We finished up tonight by getting most of the remaining stuff out of the kitchen (including the refrigerator), the dining room and the living room, including several of the TVs and the stereo equipment loaded onto the truck. That will leave the computers and desks for tomorrow, the sideboard, the washer/dryer and some of my sewing stuff in the house. And the stuff in Bryan's room has yet to be moved. We go tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. for our final walk through on the house and to go closing to sign papers at 11:00 a.m. The sellers are leaving their dogs in the back yard for the closing. That's fine with us - I hate it when people leave animals in cars! So we're going to go to lunch after the closing to give them time to collect their dogs. Then we start the reverse process of taking all that stuff back off the truck and into the house. We'll get as much unloaded as possible and sometime in the evening come back to Beavercreek to pick up our animals. The cable folks are supposed to be out Saturday morning sometime, so Bryan plans to bring the (hopefully) empty U-Haul back up here and start in on his stuff in the garage. Once the cable folks are done, then I'll drive up here and help. What a fun couple of days!! |

Our electricity came back on Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. It is so very nice to have lights and running water again!! And now we can continue our packing well into the evening instead of having to stop for darkness. Speaking of packing, we have most of the small stuff boxed up in the house. Bryan has yet to start on the garage, however, and I think that may take a while. Everything is on track to close/move on Friday. So far, other than no electricity for a week, there have been no hitches in the proceedings. Let's hope it stays that way! |

We finally found a house we like and have it under contract. We're set to go to closing on 26 September, 2008. We're planning on making this move as simple as possible and plan on getting some PODS delivered and moving that way. Bryan has one last paid move from the military so this is how we decided to do it. We can pack and unpack at our leisure rather than breaking our necks trying to get everything moved in a weekend with a U-Haul truck or having to take off work to supervise movers coming in. We just concluded repair negotiations. But the VA inspector hasn't been out yet. He may well find things that will need to be repaired before closing so it could be interesting. Part of it depends on what he "dings" on the house and how soon before closing the current owners move out to allow us to make any necessary repairs. |

We're still without electricity and without water at our house. The power went off about 2:00 p.m. on Sunday and is still out. We're without water right now because we have a well with an electric pump. Luckily, we have a hot tub (which isn't that hot right now) full of water available for running toilets and minor hand washing. Everything in the refrigerator is a waste as we've been without power long enough now that it would be unsafe to keep most of it. But on the bright side, we were going to have to clean out the fridge before we moved in a couple of weeks anyway. That task will be not only easier now, but faster as there won't be as much in it to move. (We're always supposed to look for the silver lining, right?) I must admit, however, that packing boxes to move by the light of a couple of oil lamps leaves something to be desired . Luckily it's been cool since the storm went through so it's not terribly uncomfortable in the house. And it's been cooling down nicely at night so with the windows in the bedroom open it's not too uncomfortable to sleep. But the temperatures are supposed to be going up later this week. So it's kind of a race to see what happens first - heat or electricity. |

Traci and her idiot boyfriend took our sweet little Kristen and have moved to Colorado Springs to mooch off of his parents for a while. This means we have no idea if or when we’ll get to see or hold her again. Needless to say, we’re both very saddened by this decision. |
